Yokohama International School is a coeducational school with English language instruction serving around 800 students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12.  YIS offers PYP, DP, and GCSE.  MYP is currently being implemented.

  • Develop new curriculum for MYP 6-10 humanities, using MYP unit planners and modified criterion for varied assessments.  Focus on project based learning, while using MYP guidelines in implementing the curriculum.
  • Design an integrated Group 3 humanities course for grades 9 and 10.  Collaboration with DP teachers to ensure skills and content are being vertically articulated.
  • Integrate technology in the classroom allowing for varied means of students to demonstrate knowledge and understanding.  Technology is also used to encourage student colloboation.  Some tools used include students and teacher blogs, Google Apps, Voicethread, and Twitter.
  • Design and implement unit plans, including cooperative learning, simulations, lectures, discussions, and assessments in the humanities classroom.
  • Construct lessons to accommodate special needs and English Language learners students.
  • In addition to classroom responsibilities:
    •  Middle School Student Council Advisor  organized quarterly dances, monthly assemblies, and other events. Goals include developing leaders in the middle school and helping build a middle school community.
    • Cambodia Trip Advisor 2012 Help organize and implement grade 11 ten day service trip to Cambodia.
    • Connected Learning Community Committee, developing policies regarding 1:1 MacBook roll-out, including digital citizenship, communication with the school community, and CLC handbook.

Lee H.S.  is a 9th-12th grade high school of 1930 students, offering the IBDP program and serving the diverse population of Fairfax County 2006-2007 Teacher of the Year- chosen by faculty, staff and parents of Lee HS

  • In addition to classroom responsibilities:

o   Team leader for the DP team at Lee High School.  Direct common planning, assessment, and grading based IB standards for a team of 5 IB and 4 pre-IB history teachers.

o  Creativity, Action, Service Coordinator – plan and organize service opportunities for 60 IB diploma candidates.  Maintain records of the students to provide to the International Baccalaureate Organization.

o   Lancer Leader Sponsor – Organize freshmen orientation, monitor mentorship program where highly qualified 12th grade mentors are matched with freshmen who have difficulties transitioning to high school

o   Sponsor- Class of 2006, planned fundraisers, organized prom, and coordinated graduation with administration.  Organized community service, class spirit, and other school events to benefit the almost 500 members of the Class of 2006.
