Curriculum Vitae

I am passionate about teaching and learning and continually strive to be the best teacher I can be for my students. I am a Third Culture Adult currently living in Japan, where I teach MYP Humanities and am Head of Department at Yokohama International School. I am an experienced IBMYP and IBDP Humanities and Theory of Knowledge teacher, both internationally and in the US. I helped develop the new MYP Humanities curriculum and helped introduced the Connected Learning Community 1:1 MacBook program at YIS. I am passionate about thinking about how technology affects my pedagogy and finding the best ways to help my students learn skills and concepts in the 21st Century.

What I do

Teacher and Learner

I believe that in order to be the best teacher I can be, I must also be a learner. I work to develop pedagogically and to focus my teaching and assessment on concept-based and inquiry-based instruction. I believe that whenever possible, student work should be authentic, allow students to explore their own interests and be reflective of work done by real people outside of school.

Curriculum Development

I am proud of my work developing the new MYP Humanities Curriculum at Yokohama International School. The Humanities Curriculum has been developed in-line with the MYP framework and assessment and instruction is vertically articulated grades 6-12.

Supporting and Empowering Students

I look for opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills and to take ownership of their own learning experiences. In my role as Student Council advisor and supervisor of other curricular activities, I believe in supporting events that are run-by students for students. I also hope to create chances for students to share their ideas and insights with the larger community.

Technology Integration

I continually strive to use technology in ways that redefine what teaching and learning looks like in a 21st Century classroom.  My priority is to use technology to expand the walls of my classroom, to create authentic audience for students blogs, and to prepare my students for a world where technology is ubiquitous.
